This is one of many annoying problems you will have on many operating systems with older applications that aren't necessarily "old" as in not updated any more, but just so old they were around before 4k was really something to be concerned with. Netbeans is still my go to web development IDE. After trying several others I just find it the simpliest and most reliable. I can get all my projects going and have downloaded existing sources and just keep a local copy in sync with the server copy. It makes a lot of sense and in the event of corruption, version control, or hardware failure I have multiple backups. It really makes a lot of sense to have local backups of your clients sites if at all possible.
Here is just a quick post on how to fix this issue on Linux. In your netbeans.conf file located in your Netbeans directory inside the /etc folder you need this command for the secret sauce. Obviously change the font size to your preference. On Kubuntu I use umake so my Netbeans directory was located in
